Getting High On Cheerios

Well, maybe not that kind of drug, but the US Food and Drug Administration in the United States had determined that Cheerios is a drug and needs to be regulated as such because General Mills uses the health benefits of Cheerios as a marketing tactic.

Seriously?

The FDA is going to force General Mills to apply Cheerios for approval as a new drug?

What food wouldn't have to apply for approval as a new drug under this precedent? Cookies?

If they are marketed like a drug, yup.

I'm someone has decided that lying is wrong and should be prosecuted. I'm really tired of seeing fastastic hamburgers advertised come out looking like deflated baloons when I buy the product. SHIT.

I agree with the first message. ;)

Yeah, no shit -- chalk another one up for the lobbyists running the Bush administration, in particular, the FDA. Just let 'em do whatever the fuck they want.

The party is over, you lying cock suckers. Elections matter.

Who says they're lying?

Those who know that one study doesn't prove shit when it comes to our limited knowledge of the body.

Josh said...

You make assumptions.

Douglas Porter said...

I don't make any assumptions. I know for a fact that it takes more than one corporate sponsored study to prove X objective fact.

Josh said...

You assume there has only been one corporate sponsored study, and you assume that for every drug the FDA approves they require multiples of independent studies.

Douglas Porter said...

I assume that a well-run agency requires multiple independent studies, Josh. I assume that a democratically led government without much corporate influence will do so.

Josh said...

Again, lots of assumption. Even more now. You assume a democratic government can exist without much corporate influence.

Douglas Porter said...

I assume that it can if the body politic is sufficiently political. Our body politic is not sufficiently political, so corporations have lots of room to manipulate and influence both parties. The sad thing about today's politics is that Ron Paul supporters are the more organized and vocal non-establishment group. Communists? Hmmmm. Liberals? They say liberals make up 25% of the population, but I don't here the hordes of liberals protesting or making good arguments.. The New York Times uses "abortion rights" instead of a "woman's right to choose". Abortions don't have rights, but I don't hear any angry women coming out in opposition to this obviously Anti-Choice phrase..

Obama has pacified the left for the most part.

I was listening to a LewRockwell podcast the other day and he was interviewing a conservative peace activist (the best way I can describe him) and they were talking about how bewildered they were at how inactive the left wing peace movement has been and how dead the left wing roots are all around.

Smetimes i read these posts and think i am listening to a episode of Deadwood! The language chosen often pushs the message intothe background.

perhaps both of you should be les concerned about the lying c------ and ask yourselves Do we really need Cherrios? Could we live with out them? How about we put more effort into simply not buying the junk and pay no attention at all to teh inssanity of the governing bodies then over time bit by bit they become irrrelevant.

Don't waste one thought on the false advertising but simply do not buy the product. Period. The ultimate statement and the ultimate vote!

I never knew you were such a free-marketeer!

That just show how stupid Rockwell is. Everyone on the left is collectively biting their tongue, allowing Obama to strategically maneuver. Biden said Obama would piss everyone off, and by "everyone" he meant the left and his liberal supporters. So...

I see that Dad is stuck in some Baby Boomer psychedelic, political black hole where he thinks the simple act of not buying Cheerios will lead to political utopia! Try again! Try gardening in concrete and I tell you what will happen.

Well, thankfully Obama isn't murdering anyone and letting torturers get away while he "strategically maneuver" lol. The left is full of hypocrites. The apologies need to stop.

Well, at least he doesn't think regulating how people live their lives will lead to a political utopia.

I'm not apologizing for anyone. I'm just telling you what is happening. The left and liberals hated Bush so much and fear that another might gain power that they are willing to compromise to keep his ilk out of power. :)

"Well, at least he doesn't think regulating how people live their lives will lead to a political utopia."

I don't remember arguing that. When on Earth did I argue that regulating industry for safety would lead to utopia? Holy shit, Josh, put down the shovel.

Then the left and liberals are void of any principles. Rationalizing murdering people and torturing people in order to stay in power is abhorrent and those that do it should be thrown in prison.

Actually, I would say that they are brimming with principles, because they know if they do what they did before, another Bush will be elected, which will lead to more torture and war.

Oh yeah, just because you defend a bunch of principles doesn't mean your principles are moral. For example, Ron Paul's free market principles are immoral.

Josh said...

Yea, because the US isn't seeing more war and more torture under Obama:
