Douglas Coupland On The Current Economic Hysteria

Douglas Coupland has written an interesting piece, Gloomageddon, on the fear instilled in individuals who are worried of the current economic crisis.

Some parts of the article seem a little too close to home and I enjoyed his concluding advise:
So, as human nature doesn't seem likely to change in the foreseeable future, the only thing we can do is command our rational selves to stop our irrational selves from clicking the Reuters or Huffington or Drudge bookmark every 10 minutes. As we know, bad news travels instantly; good news ends up on a slag heap. Remember: Capitalism is a robust system. Things really will get better. This will pass. Go out and buy a Chrysler.

One must remember though, we're not overly capitalistic and Chryslers are pieces of crap. Go out and buy a Toyota, they're well made and also in need of help.

On a side note, I once read Coupland's Microserfs; very good book.

I liked it when Copeland compared being a Marxist to declaring oneself Bugs Bunny.

Yep, go buy something.
