Quote - Glenn Greenwald on U.S. v. Iran

"And, oh yeah -- we're currently occupying two Muslim countries on either side of Iran, having invaded them many years ago. There's nothing Iran has done that we and our clients/allies haven't done ourselves to a far greater extent. But remember: it's Iran that is run by people with crazy, belligerent, fanatical, war-loving sentiments and is therefore a grave threat to world peace (imagine if Iran had invaded, bombed and then spent the last eight years militarily occupying Canada and Mexico, only for Iranian media elites to keep insisting that it was the U.S. that was the rogue state run by aggressive fanatics who threatened world peace)."
Read Mr. Greenwald's column here.

Glenn Greenwald was recently on the left-wing war-mongering US cable network MSNBC arguing against war-mongering left-winger Arianna Huffington:

Of course, none of them are left-wing by any historical or academic definition of left-wing.

Josh said...

Maybe so, but they've done a great job hijacking and pacifying the left.

Douglas Porter said...

Indeed, but only because people have enough to be non-political.

Josh said...

I think its because they have their great leader.

Douglas Porter said...

Nope. If they were living like they did before the New Deal they would be much more political than the teabagheads.

20% unemployment right now...the people suffering the most in the states are turning to the tea parties. Its the only organized effort within the US people can go to protest and voice their frustrations.

I think if they were living like they did before, during, and after the new deal they'd be much more politically active because the new deal didn't fix anything.

If 20% unemployment persists for an extended period of time, the protesting will grow larger as people run out of the means to support themselves without jobs.

If this ends like the great depression ends, in war, it will be interesting to see how the public reacts. Either all shit will break loose, or everyone will get behind a devastating war.

That's because the communist narratives have been repressed, suppressed, censored, and slandered.

With 20% employment, their "teabaghead" ideology will get them no where. They will have to take up leftist arguments and solutions to get what they want.

LOL. Highest wages ever paid. Surely you jest, Josh. I already proved that the soliders were paid more than most workers and that that increase in pay drove up wages across the board.

"If 20% unemployment persists for an extended period of time, the protesting will grow larger as people run out of the means to support themselves without jobs."

The teabaghead ideology will not help them.

Pretty damn stupid, eh? All they have to do is know that they have to ban the corporations from moving jobs to China and the entire mess ends.

Because Communism is not a popular idea...

"With 20% employment, their "teabaghead" ideology will get them no where."

True.

"They will have to take up leftist arguments and solutions to get what they want."

False.

"I already proved that the soliders were paid more than most workers and that that increase in pay drove up wages across the board."

You've never proven any such thing. And with 20 - 25% unemployment for a whole decade under FDR, what the fuck do I care how much fiat money the government is funneling into the military to keep the soldiers happy? That's your solution? Inflate military salaries?

"All they have to do is know that they have to ban the corporations from moving jobs to China and the entire mess ends."

Corporations wouldn't be moving to China if that wasn't where ALL capital is moving to. China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, Japan: these are the places in the world with the strongest manufacturing sectors, this is naturally where the jobs will go, and this is naturally where people are beginning to go for opportunity. You're looking at the problem backwards.

No, because of the red hunts during the 50s. And, yes, communism was a popular idea before the Great Repression of the McCarthy Era.

Communism was made unpopular through propaganda, nothing else.

"False."

Of course, I forgot that they will choose to become low wage slaves.

"You've never proven any such thing. And with 20 - 25% unemployment for a whole decade under FDR, what the fuck do I care how much fiat money the government is funneling into the military to keep the soldiers happy? That's your solution? Inflate military salaries?"

Won't work this time.

"Corporations wouldn't be moving to China if that wasn't where ALL capital is moving to. Nope. The manufacturing sectors in both Japan and Korea have been paid much less than their American and European counterparts. Those manufacturing sectors now under the same pressure as American workers. That is why Japan never came out of recession for 10 fucking years, and is why Korea is going to have the same problems very soon. Slave wages. The corporations want to pay slave wages. It has nothing to do with "strong" manufacturing sectors. Your argument is shit.

Yes, there was a repression of communist though through the McCarthy era, but calling communism popular prior to that is an overstatement I think. Popular among certain circles for sure, but were the majority of americans communist or supportive of communist policies? No. That would be like me claiming Ron Paul's idea to remove the department of education is popular. Its not, but among certain circles its very popular.

"The manufacturing sectors in both Japan and Korea have been paid much less than their American and European counterparts."

Their american counter-parts have an inflated purchasing power due to the US Dollar as the reserve currency of the world. This is collapsing. It won't matter how many dollars per hour GM workers are getting paid, their purchasing power is going to shrink more and more the longer 20% of US population stays unemployed, the more east-asian countries move away from the US, and the more the US government steals from the people.

"That is why Japan never came out of recession for 10 fucking years"

Japan never came out of a recession because their central bank kept interest rates too low and their government kept propping up failed institutions. The new leaders are promoting a strong yen and I'm sure you'll see Japan start to rise out of their 20 year economic slumber as they continue to separate themselves from the US.

Nope. Generally speaking, "communism" meant improving the lot of the working class, and many, many people were for that. Remember, at that time it wasn't clear what Stalin was yet. The Western Marxists were just beginning to turn away from Bolshevism.

"Their american counter-parts have an inflated purchasing power due to the US Dollar as the reserve currency of the world. This is collapsing."

No, you are wrong. They make more per hour. PERIOD. The purchasing power of Korea and the USA are almost equal. The Korean service workers get paid low wages because 1) their union is weak, 2) there is no minimum wage, 3) there is no safety net to drive up wages.

"It won't matter how many dollars per hour GM workers are getting paid, their purchasing power is going to shrink more and more the longer 20% of US population stays unemployed, the more east-asian countries move away from the US, and the more the US government steals from the people."

Talk about it when it happens, Josh.

That was surely part of the problem, but the biggest problem was the disappearance of jobs. Engineering, company, and manufacturing jobs all disappeared before and during that decade.
