American Doctors DO NOT Support Obama's Health Reform

From Investors.com:
• Two-thirds, or 65%, of doctors say they oppose the proposed government expansion plan. This contradicts the administration's claims that doctors are part of an "unprecedented coalition" supporting a medical overhaul.

• Four of nine doctors, or 45%, said they "would consider leaving their practice or taking an early retirement" if Congress passes the plan the Democratic majority and White House have in mind.

• More than seven in 10 doctors, or 71% — the most lopsided response in the poll — answered "no" when asked if they believed "the government can cover 47 million more people and that it will cost less money and the quality of care will be better."

Good for them. I'm sure they'll love their health care after a good chunk of physicians leave their profession.

Where are the physicians going to make more money, Josh?

Its rather disgusting how you support forcing a whole profession under the employment of 1 employer.

Aren't monopolies bad?

Douglas Porter said...

You didn't answer my question, because

a) physicians would still make a shit load of money under a socialized system

and

b) you know that there would be nowhere else for them to go

Socialized medicine is not a monopoly. It is controlled by the people. A monopoly is harmful because it gives power to a very small number of people or one person.

The doctors are enjoying a pay oligarchy at the moment, and I am pretty sure that some of them don't want to give that up.

Anyway, you are wrong:

"Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington,"

Really? In opposition to the above four surveys? I think not. I think "investors.com" has a vested interest in skewing the data.

"and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted, a new IBD/TIPP Poll has found."

They would THINK about closing down their practices? OH MY GOD NO! Don't make the doctors think about doing this and that! Oh my God!

"The poll contradicts the claims of not only the White House, but also doctors' own lobby — the powerful American Medical Association — both of which suggest the medical profession is behind the proposed overhaul."

It also contradicts other polls and surveys.

"It also calls into question whether an overhaul is even doable; 72% of the doctors polled disagree with the administration's claim that the government can cover 47 million more people with better-quality care at lower cost."

Oh, I thought these guys were experts on medicine, not cost-benefit economics! What a retarded poll.

"More than 800,000 doctors were practicing in 2006, the government says. Projecting the poll's finding onto that population, 360,000 doctors would consider quitting."

Oh no! They are going to THINK about closing their practices! And if 100% of those thinkers decide to retire we will have only 360,000 doctors! Oh no! The sky is falling!

The reality of the situation is that they would close down their practices if they were not paid enough.

"Notes
The survey was designed and conducted by Drs. Salomeh Keyhani and Alex Federman of Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Over the summer of 2009, they surveyed a random sample of more than 2,000 physicians."

2000 is bigger than 1700. And, no, they didn't poll just the AMA members. It was a random survey of doctors nationwide.

I'm not going to argue this. I shouldn't have posted the survey. I wouldn't have cared if they were for Obama's plan, so its rather hypocritical of me to care if they are against it.
