Um, he blames neo-liberal, market fundamentalist ideology for the financial crisis and then calls for a gold standard? The gold standard is the clarion call of the neo-liberal, market fundamentalist ideology!

How about this! Change the laws back and reign the fiat system! *Gasp*

Well, he got one thing right: it is not an economic crisis, yet.. it is a financial crisis.

I find his use of the word "terrorism" quite offensive. It is not terrorism. Counterfeitism? Okay.

Unfortunately for him, he has ignored the 4 million jobs that have been lost since the end of the 90s. Therefore, loaning systems that made sense in the 1990s BECAME unprofitable because a huge number of people who took out the loans could NO LONGER pay them back. This is never mentioned by the neo-conservative talking heads like this guy, because it suggests that it is the class strugge that is fundamentally to blame. It's like putting an expensive rug on the floor and then obliteratin the floor with a nuke and then blaming the rug for destroying the floor.

Who destroyed the floor? The corporations.

Yea, he's crazy...fun to watch.

The US government constantly uses terrorism. I think he's using the word very appropriately. I'm more offended when just about any government official uses that word.

Sorry, terrorism are those acts that cause terror: a deep fear for one's life that causes imobilization or a run or fight for one's life. Depressions and recessions do not cause terror.

Terrorism is the use of fear to manipulate, which is what the US government does alongside mainstream media all the time.

A fairly liberal-minded coworker and I were discussing today how similar the media has been towing the governments line on this bailout just as they did when the US went into Iraq.

Its disgusting. And yes, when Hank Paulson goes infront of congress and says the world is going to end if they don't authorize him to use $700 billion of tax payer cash to bailout his crony friends, yes, that is terrorism.

Douglas Porter said...

No, sorry, TERRORism is the use of TERROR for some sort of gain. Fearmongering and terrorism are not the same.

I see Paulson use to be on the board at Goldman Sachs.. Conflict of interests? Anyway, Paulson is not just a crony; he's a reflection of people's perception of the economy. Many, many people DO think the world is going to end if we don't do something to help the economic system..
